List of Birth StonesMany beliefs assign enormous value to the month of your child birth as the defining aspect of your personality. Along with distinguishing a person’s zodiac symbol their birth month carries with it a designated Birthstone. Each month is consigned one of twelve precious stones all of which are steeped in history and meaning. Throughout time, civilizations around the world have endowed jewels with powers and mystical characteristics, believing that certain gems could offer elements such as wisdom, protection or healing.
With history dating as far back as ancient times, gemstones have transcended religious borders with roots in Paganism and Christianity. The selection of the original twelve Birthstones is said to have come from the stones located on the breast plate of the biblical figure Aaron. But zodiac signs also have significant ties with these gems with the theory that by wearing one’s particular Birthstone the jewel can help negate the negative planetary influences surrounding one’s birth month. In 1912 the American National Association of Jewelers created the modern list of Birthstones to some amount of controversy. Despite some dissent and with some minor additions and subtractions over the years to this day remains largely the same. The following is the list of Birthstones and their allocated month. January The names of these stones fluctuate based on variants like, culture, religion and nationality but the gems themselves are generally similar in assignment. The history and evolution of each person’s stone is unique and distinctive. A person may wear many different jewels but their Birthstone will always hold a special meaning. |
